Earlier this week I attended a Brett Harkness wedding photography training day, at the stunning Harlaxton Manor in Lincolnshire. This was the second time I've been to one of Brett’s training days – the first being in the Lake District in 2019. I was massively inspired by Brett on that first occasion, by his photography of course, but also by his general approach to photography. So when he announced another training day just an hour from me, I couldn't resist being part of it again.

We began the day with Brett talking us through his career, discussing some of the more challenging scenarios he's had to deal with, as well as the techniques he used to get some of his shots, while also welcoming all questions from us on his business model. After that, our models for the day Shannon and Jake arrived, and we began photographing them under Brett's guidance, starting with some natural light shots (sometimes adding in a reflector), before moving into various off-camera flash techniques, when the situation called for it. Due to the rainy weather outside we mostly used the interior of the Manor (which was spectacular), but fortunately in the afternoon we did also get a small break in the rain for 20 minutes or so, which we made the most of!

For anyone looking to learn off camera flash, and in particular learn how to incorporate it successfully into the often hectic nature of a wedding day, I can't recommend Brett's training courses highly enough. His style of teaching is such that it would suit a beginner as well as an experienced pro -everyone would get something from it! I can't wait to incorporate some of these looks into my future wedding days. Please find a selection of my favourite photos from the shoot below!
